Baltic Drummers League – Saulkrasti Jazz Festival

Baltic Drummers League

The Baltic Drummer League is a drummers competition, in which the best and most skilled drummers in the age category up to 25 years old are determined. The competition is organized by Saulkrasti Jazz in cooperation with musical instrument manufacturers Yamaha and Paiste, which allows to assess the mastery of Estonian, Lithuanian and Latvian drummers and motivates the most talented musicians to fight for the main prize of the competition.

The Baltic Drummers League was held for the first time in 2010 and has been held every two years since then.

The competition is attended by young people under the age of 25 from Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.

The competition is held in two rounds:

Round 1 – SELECTION

Round 2 – FINAL

The first round of the SELECTION takes place in the competitor’s home country, where two of the best participants earn their way to the FINAL.

The FINAL takes place in Latvia, within the framework of the Saulkrasti Jazz Festival on the Main Stage and is open to the public.

Each FINAL participant performs pre-prepared program, which does not exceed 15 minutes of stage time. The program includes a solo for a small drum, a free solo on a drum kit and performance with an ensemble.

The participants of the competition are evaluated annually by a different jury committee, which consists of professional musicians and / or lecturers from abroad.

The main prize of the Baltic Drummers League competition is 1000 EUR or a paid trip and participation in jazz music master classes in one of the jazz music festivals organized by Saulkrasti Jazz partners. (see COLLABORATIONS)
